SEP 16th’s TIME TRIAL

POSTPONED TO SEP 23rd!!

WHY??!

Most of you who know the course, it runs along the South Folsom Canal. For a large portion of this canal/bike trail, it has a large embankment along the west side of it for roughly half of our time trial course. All summer long, this embankment has had grass growing and now it’s an overgrown, dried, fire hazard. Since late last week, the county has been using a huge herd of goats on this embankment, to consume the dried grass and mitigate the risk of a grass fire.

While the goats have been chowing down on the grass, they have also dislodged numerous (too many to count) rocks – many as large as potatoes… and these rocks have found their way onto the bike trail. In its current condition, it is too dangerous to ride any sort of time trial. This is as of Monday night, and it definitely won’t be safe by Wednesday night.

Based on how much more grass the goats need to consume, we’re estimating that we should have a safe course (we plan on clearing the rocks) ready to ride next week, Wednesday, Sep 23rd. We will do another course assessment next Monday and announce a go / no-go based on what we see then. Look for that update here.

MONDAY UPDATE:

Goats are still on the embankment, but it looked like they were going to be done early Tuesday. We’ve cleared 99% of the rocks from the course and will do a final check Wednesday morning.

We’re planning on racing on Wednesday! 6pm start as usual.

Flat/Fast – Folsom South Canal
Challenge yourself with multiple formats:
……….● 20 K (12.4 mi) short course, one out-and-back. Available at every event.
……….● 40 K (24.8 mi) standard distance, two out-and-backs.
……….● 2x 20 K is one 20K (12.4 mi) out-and-back time trial, followed by an 8-minute rest, then a second 20K out-and-back time trial.

Time Trial Directions
Thursdays, South Folsom Canal
Take Hwy 50 to Sunrise and go south. Go about 2 miles and turn right on International Drive.
Take your first left (Kilgore Road).
Take your first left (Slyvaner Drive).
Take your first left (Oselot Way). Follow Oselot to the water tower and park along Oselot – there is a bike trail that gets you to the start line right next to the canal.

Start line is at the water tower on the canal bike trail.
